Support Small Businesses

Choosing to support independent businesses when buying gifts for loved ones is an impactful way to invest in the unique and the personal.

By opting for products from local artisans or independent shops, you not only discover one-of-a-kind, handcrafted items but also contribute directly to the livelihoods of passionate entrepreneurs.

Here are a few simple ways to support small and local business through gift giving:

  • Gift cards to local independent food establishments like cafes, restaurants and bars.
  • Membership at a local gym, yoga studio, swimming pool, etc.
  • Homemade gifts purchased at a farmer’s market or crafts fair.
  • Gift cards for Etsy, Shopify, or a similar online market for direct sales of handcrafted gifts.

I also have a few personal favorites among small businesses I like to use for gifts to my friends and family… And occasionally to treat myself!

Home and Style

Mala candles are another favorite of mine. They have a whole variety of creative “flavors” as their candle scents. They plant a tree for every candle sold to pay it forward.

This brand is independent and vegan-friendly, using coconut soy wax to make delicious smelling plant-based candles.

If you love the idea of cruelty-free fashion, Samara offers an incredible range of accessories made of plant-based leather from apple waste and castor seeds, organic cotton, and recycled ocean plastics.

You’ll find everything from bags and purses to journals and jewelry pouches. Scrappy, but make it fashion!

Beauty and Wellness

Have you heard of red light therapy? I use Lumebox red light for 10-15 minutes a day during the cold time of the year to prevent seasonal mood disorders, keep my skin healthy and help me sleep.

If you live in a colder region, Lumebox makes a thoughful and caring gift for someone you love.

If you’re looking for a present for someone conscious about their appearance and skin health, Dime offers a full range of skincare products to make you look and feel divine!

Dime skincare saw me through the entire wedding prep. I’ve never felt more confident in my skin!

Plant-Based Cookbooks

Of course, the natural gift choice for any vegan is a good plant-based cookbook! The ultimate vegan gift guide wouldn’t be complete without nutritious, well-rounded cookbooks.

My heart fills with joy every time I see a new vegan cookbook. There is no way I could pick just one, but these are a few of my favorites I would recommend:

The Fiber Fueled Cookbook by Will Bulsiewicz. Will is a dear friend (he actually wrote a foreword for the PlantYou Cookbook), and I can honestly say that every person would benefit from having his cookbook, vegan or not.

Plant-Based on a Budget: Quick and Easy by Toni Okamoto. I’m all about making veganism accessible, which is why I love this book full of delicious budget-friendly recipes. It even has a stamp of approval from Dr Michael Gregor.

Blue Zones American Kitchen by Dan Buettner. Blue Zones are the five places around the world where people consistently past 100 years. A great gift for any health-conscious person in your life.

HealthyGirl Kitchen by Danielle Brown. This cookbook would make a perfect gift for a busy person or a reluctant cook. All the recipes are healthy but also OH-SO-EASY.

Sustainability and Better Living

Sustainability and self-improvement are closely linked with plant-based living. After all, the decision to transition to veganism comes from the desire to do better.

100 Ways to Change Your Life by Liz Moody. I’ve been obsessed with this book ever since it came out! It covers everything from finances and health to relationships and self-fulfilment.

Mending Life by Nina Montenegro. This book features great ways to extend the life of your clothing, with lots of techniques for repairing and upcycling clothes. Even I could do it!

Slow Fashion: Aesthetics Meets Ethics by Safia Minney. You guys know how much I love thrifting… In part, it’s thanks to this book!

F**k Plastic: 101 Ways to Free Yourself from Plastic. Just like becoming plant-based, reducing plastic waste is a long road… But it’s worth it!

Zero Waste Gift Ideas

Let’s take the zero waste theory and put it into practice! My favorite zero-waste essentials that double as excellent gifts.

Cotton Produce Bags. These are a perfect gift for anyone who loves shopping at a farmers’ market or a zero waste store.

Paperless Kitchen Towels. These microfiber cloths are reusable and they fit perfectly around the kitchen roll stand.

Countertop Compost Bin. Any scraps that are leftover from cooking can turn into nutritious soil for your plants, indoors or outdoors!

Ziploc Endurables. These silicone bags are good for freezing, storage, transport, and cooking food. Plus, they can be washed in a dishwasher!

Kitchen and Homeware

The ultimate vegan gift guide would not be complete without a kitchen and home section! As a vegan content creator, I’ve used a lot of different cookware and homeware over the years.

Just know that these are personally tested and approved by me as gifts for the plant-based person in your life.

I could genuinely stock my whole kitchen with every item from Made In (and I am working on it haha), from cookware and utensils to crockery and glass because the quality is amazing!

Now, I know that Le Creuset pans come with a hefty cost. But anyone who will receive a gift like this will not expect any more gifts from you for at least five years!

This all-in-one plant-based milk maker is an amazing investment and a brilliant gift.

It combines the blending and filtering functions. All you need to do is choose your ingredients and add water. Don’t worry, Almond Cow is not limited to almonds! You can enjoy cashew milk, rice milk, oat milk, and more.

I always rave about the Ninja products because they are a combination of great quality and a sensible price tag.

And the best part is… Whatever you want to make, they have an appliance for that! They make everything from blenders and multi-cookers to ice cream makers and soda streams.

Gifts for Vegan Content Creators

This might be a bit more niche, but if you have a loved one who is an aspiring vegan food blogger, video content creator, or podcaster, there is an entire range of gifts for this exact occasion.

  • Digital camera. Although phones have come a long way, having a professional camera can take your loved one’s photos and videos to the next level.
  • A podcast mic. This is a perfect gift for someone who expressed interest in podcasting.
  • Skill course. Help your loved one get better at photography, editing, blog writing, social media strategy, or understanding nutrition.
