One of the surest ways to get plenty of nutrients on a plant-based diet is a hearty stir fry. I handpicked these eight mouth-watering vegan stir-fry recipes to inspire your cooking and make your home smell incredible!

A stir fry is a cooking technique from East Asia, particularly China, where ingredients are quickly sauteed in a pan or wok with a small amount of oil over high heat. The term “stir fry” refers both to the cooking method and to the dishes prepared using this technique.

In my household, vegan stir-fry recipes are always a hit! It’s a great way to get your daily dose of veggies, and the dishes are endlessly customizable.

Key Features of Stir Fry

  • High heat. Stir-frying is done over high heat, typically on a gas stove, although electric stoves are also acceptable. The high heat allows for rapid cooking and helps to retain the natural flavors and textures of the ingredients.
  • Aromatic oil: A small amount of oil, such as peanut oil or sesame oil, is used to coat the pan or wok and prevent ingredients from sticking. The oil also helps to distribute heat evenly and adds flavor to the dish.
  • Quick. The ingredients are cooked quickly to preserve their color, texture, and nutrients. Stir-frying involves continuous stirring or tossing of the ingredients to ensure even cooking and prevent burning.
  • Flavorful sauces. Stir-fry recipes typically feature a sauce with bright and deep flavors. It is usually a combination of the fundamental elements in Asian cooking, such as soy sauce, vinegar or lime juice, cornstarch, and optional hot sauce.
  • Versatility. Stir-frying is a versatile cooking technique that can accommodate a wide range of ingredients and flavor combinations. This is why vegan stir-fry recipes usually make it into my weekly meal rotation.

That said, this list includes some creative takes on the stir-fry concept, which may not feature every single characteristic from above.
