Do you ever miss the rich, nutty flavor of Nutella? If you answered “yes”, this Homemade Vegan Nutella recipe is going to change your life!

If only you could have seen the look on my partner’s face when he tried this vegan chocolate hazelnut spread! This tastes exactly like the “real” thing and is pretty easy to make. Not only that, but this vegan version of Nutella is made with healthy, whole-food ingredients. Just ensure you have a food processor or a high-speed blender!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • In terms of taste, it’s a perfect replica of the famous Nutella spread. Except this hazelnut chocolate spread is vegan!
  • It makes a great addition to almost any breakfast – you can spread it on toast, add it to your oatmeal, or layer it between pancakes.
  • This vegan Nutella contains no refined sugar! It can really satisfy your sweet craving while remaining a healthier version of the store-bought spread.
  • With a food processor of a high-power blender, this recipe is so easy to make! You can even make it with your kids!

How to Make This Recipe

Start by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 400F.

Next, pour the raw hazelnuts onto the baking sheet, and roast for 12 minutes. Allow the hazelnuts to cool slightly to make them safe to handle. While the hazelnuts are cooling, prepare the rest of your ingredients.

Transfer your hazelnuts to a clean dishcloth. The next part may seem weird, but I promise you – it works like a charm! Rub the hazelnuts inside the cloth to remove the skins.

Add the “skinned” hazelnuts to a high-speed blender or a food processor, along with the remaining ingredients. As you blend, you may want to add up to a 1/4 cup of water to achieve a creamy consistency. It will be grainy at first, but eventually, you will achieve a smooth, peanut-butter-like texture.

Hack It!

  • This vegan Nutella is a great way to spruce up your baked goods! Add it to your brownies, cupcakes, cookies, or cereal bars.
  • Although Nutella is known for its signature hazelnut flavor, you can still enjoy a creamy chocolate spread if you are allergic to nuts. Replace hazelnuts with sunflower seeds (roasted for 7-8 minutes) and enjoy!
  • Stuck for breakfast ideas? Add this delicious spread to pancakes, oatmeal, chia pudding, smoothie or even a protein shake!
  • If you can’t have hazelnuts or, perhaps, you are looking for some variety, you can also make a chocolate spread using almonds (roasted and shelled), cashews (roasted) or pistachios (roasted).

Store This Recipe

The hazelnut chocolate spread can be stored for up to 5 days in a sealed jar on your counter! You can also make a bigger batch and pasteurize it. That way, a jar of homemade vegan Nutella can last for several weeks! Unless, of course, you eat it all at once.
