Tortilla Trend (Viral TikTok Tortilla Hack Veganized)
The viral tortilla trend you’ve seen all over TikTok, veganized three different ways.
If you’re on TikTok, you’ve no doubt heard seen this viral tortilla hack that has taken the world by storm. The #TortillaTrend is one the first TikTok hacks that I’m hoping is here to stay.
It’s basically an ingenious way to make a quick quesadilla, and for the fillings, just about anything is game.
I first saw this viral hack done with lots of meat and melty cheese, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try my hand at veganizing it!
How To Hack It
To master this viral tortilla trend, it’s all in the folds.
You slice a slit in your tortilla, then fill each corner with different ingredients. Then you fold each corner over each other, until you have a stack of tasty ingredients. You can make it salty or sweet!
It’s reminiscent of a traditional folded quesadilla, or something like a crunchwrap from Taco Bell. Either way, it’s ridiculously delicious.
It’s also a great way to use any leftover ingredients you have lying around in your fridge.
How To Make It Vegan
At PlantYou, I love veganizing all sorts of viral recipes, like Gigi Hadid’s Vodka Pasta to Taylor Swift’s Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies. Naturally, you couldn’t stop me from veganizing the tortilla trend.
Instead of using animal based ingredients like shredded cheese, shrimp and ground beef, we’ve made the TikTok trend vegan by swapping in beefless crumbles, some vegan cheese, and other amazing plant-based ingredients like kimchi, avocado, tomato and more.
As you can see the possibilities are basically endless for what you can do.
Here are some ingredient ideas:
- Mixed Greens
- Hummus
- Marinara Sauce
- Vegan Cheese Shreds
- Vegan Cream Cheese
- Nutritional Yeast
- Tempeh Bacon
- Vegan Beefless Crumbles
And so much more! Anything you can put in a quesadilla goes.
Here are the versions we focused on for this blog post:
Kimchi Rice Tortilla Hack
Vegan Pizza Tortilla Hack
Crunch Wrap Tortilla Hack
And after you’re done folding them, you want to place in a pan or a panini press to pan fry. Anything should work!
And finally here is the finished product…
Make It Sweet
I’ll be doing a second blog post for sweet tortilla hacks, but for this post we’ve chosen to focus on savory. With that said, here are some ideas on how to make a quick and delicious sweet version of the viral trend.
You could add bananas, vegan nutella or peanut butter and more. I also think strawberries and something like a chocolate hummus would be amazing. Think vegan sweet crepes!
Without further ado, here are my fav savory combos.

I used this folding method just for a basic burrito yesterday- equally delicious but much easier to eat.
Awesome to hear!
