What exactly is Tempeh?

Tempeh is made from soybeans that are cooked and then cultured. It comes in a slab, and is often sliced like bacon pieces when you buy it from the store. You can usually find it along with your tofu and other vegan products at most mainstream grocery stores.

What’s In This Tempeh Bacon Recipe?

To make tempeh bacon, you only need a few really simple ingredients that you likely already have in your fridge and pantry. 

This includes:

  • Soy Sauce
  • Hot Sauce
  • Cumin 
  • Maple Syrup (or brown sugar)

Tempeh Bacon

This tempeh bacon recipe requires just five simple vegan ingredients for a delicious smokey bacon you can feel good about eating.

Equipment

  • Pan

Ingredients

  • 5 Slices Tempeh
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Maple Syrup
  • 1 Tsp Hot Sauce
  • 1/2 Tsp Cumin

Instructions

  • Create a quick marinade by combining your soy sauce, maple syrup, hot sauce and cumin in a glass bowl or tupperware. Soak the tempeh slices on each side for one minute until the sauce is soaked up.
  • Add the tempeh to an oiled or non-stick pan, and cook over medium heat for approximately 5 minutes on each side until crispy. Enjoy!
