This tempeh bacon recipe is smokey and delicious, coming together with just five simple whole-foods, plant-based ingredients.

Have you tried tempeh yet? It’s a fermented soy product, and in my opinion, it has a meatier taste and texture when compared to tofu.

The natural hardiness of tempeh makes it the perfect vegan alternative for a bacon recipe! Better yet, this Tempeh Bacon Recipe is so easy to make, you can have it served up in less than ten minutes.

What exactly is Tempeh?

Tempeh is made from soybeans that are cooked and then cultured. It comes in a slab, and is often sliced like bacon pieces when you buy it from the store. You can usually find it along with your tofu and other vegan products at most mainstream grocery stores.

It has a bit of an earthy taste, and is packed with probiotics which makes it a richly nutritious protein choice if you’re wanting to change things up a bit! If you’re looking for a tempeh meal prep recipe, definitely try our tempeh teriyaki bowls.

What’s In This Tempeh Bacon Recipe?

To make tempeh bacon, you only need a few really simple ingredients that you likely already have in your fridge and pantry.

This includes:

  • Soy Sauce
  • Hot Sauce
  • Cumin
  • Maple Syrup (or brown sugar)

The key here is to create a smokey, delicious marinade reminiscent of traditional bacon! The longer you are vegan, the more you realize what you miss about meat dishes is simply the flavor, and not the meat itself. That’s why you’ll go absolutely crazy of this Vegan Tempeh Bacon!
