Vegan Baileys
There is no better drink for celebration than Irish cream! This vegan Baileys recipe is silky smooth, delicious and ready in five minutes!
Whether you like it served over the rocks, or in your morning coffee, Irish cream is a classic treat enjoyed by millions across the world. Baileys is the most popular brand of this creamy alcoholic drink, and I couldn’t be more excited to share this homemade vegan Baileys recipe.
Shockingly, Irish cream is actually not a traditional drink in Ireland. The first version of it was created by Baileys by a creative agency in Dublin in 1973. Since then, it has been marketed as an Irish drink and it is now protected by a geographical indicator that the product must be produced in Ireland.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Baileys is a perfect drink for celebration! Whether you want to welcome the New Year, say cheers on St Patrick’s, or toast to your own birthday… This vegan Baileys recipe is definitely a staple!
- Although Baileys have released a dairy-free version of their classic drink, I encourage you to try this homemade vegan Baileys. Not only is this version lighter and better for you, it is also ridiculously easy to make.
- Making your own Baileys at home is much cheaper, too! The entire recipe only calls for FIVE common ingredients. For the same money you’d spend on one bottle of the branded drink, you could make several bottles of your own homemade vegan Irish cream.
- The texture is absolutely gorgeous! It’s so creamy and silky smooth, you’ll be making this for every special occasion.
How to Make This Recipe
To make this Vegan Baileys recipe, you need five simple ingredients. These include:
- Coconut milk
- Vanilla extract
- Brewed coffee
- Maple syrup
- Whiskey of choice
To make this Irish Cream, you will need just one piece of equipment, a decent blender.
Then, it’s just a matter of throwing all these ingredients in your blender and processing until you have a beautiful, creamy drink.
Just like the original, this vegan Baileys is best served chilled. Alternatively, you may enjoy a shot in your coffee (on your day off, of course!)
Hack It!
- Coconut milk is what gives the vegan Baileys its thick, creamy texture. However, it does have a pretty strong coconut flavor. The alternative to that would be to use unsweetened oat or cashew milk.
- This recipe includes whiskey to imitate the original Baileys. However, if you’re not a drinker, you can purchase alcohol free whiskey. This is a great option for those who want to enjoy the traditional taste of a vegan Irish cream, without the alcohol!
- If you’d sooner skip the whiskey, this is still a delicious creamy drink that can also act as a morning creamer for your coffee.
- If you’re wanting to make your Vegan Baileys ahead of time, and store in the fridge for when guests come over, it will stay fresh in airtight container in the fridge for up to four days. I suggest shaking it up before serving, as sometimes coconut milk can separate over time.
- On its own, Baileys is best served over ice, perhaps with a pinch of cinnamon. Otherwise, I encourage you to try it instead of a creamer in your coffee. It will change your life!
